Sorry to hear the bad news of your new car, although with high mileage in a short time;  however that subject should not make any difference.

The CEO of both local hospitals, who now lives here, has recently acquired a GM electric car.  The noise from having a new charging station installed downstairs, lasted a whole day right under my apartment. Brad's parking space is at the furthest end of the building, also mine is at the opposite end with the now unused charging station !

If only we could have swapped parking spaces, it would have been simpler and less expensive, also we would not have to walk from one end to the other !

Best of luck, "waiting" is not easy at t times; I found that out when the mice ate through my 3 year old car and the insurance company took over 3 months before inspecting the problem. Kia had to keep it at the back of their lot with police tape all around and a sign "do not touch"!  Kia and son Graham, then living in Vernon B.C , kept in touch by phone every week, I eventually ran out of insurance funding for loan cars, Frustration all around !!
However the Service department, also Sales, @ Kia are my best friends, I am treated like a Queen !!

That is a beautiful photo of your niece, especially having it printed on canvas.  The hallway is certainly one

of the best places for it to be seen, as were some of our items in Clayton.

Yesterday was a day of removing the last of half dead flowers from the balcony and taking them out of the pots,
then taking the soil outside to cover the roots of "OUR" rosebush then covering it with 2 layers of winter protection
special covers, minus the usual dried leaves, the wet snow ruined piles of leaves ! Fingers crossed it survives Winter !
Today I will wash all the containers from outside and take them downstairs to the underground storage unit.

Saturday I shall go to Clayton for the Remembrance Service @ 11 am overlooking the lake, close to the General
Store,  put on by the Almonte Legion with the Marching Band of Canadian Artillery from Petawawa.

Sunday I shall ask David Moat if I can hitch a ride with him for St.G's special Remem: Service, the weather forecast
is not good, heavy snow.  I think I will read  Tony's special poem "Cherish the Brave" that he wrote and was first read
@ the dedication of the Korean War Memorial at Confederation Square, Ottawa without his Knowledge. (That's another
sad frustrating story).

Low battery, so time to start working !

November 5, 2025

I hope all is well now.  Maybe today is the time for your front tooth removal. not the best of times, but I am sure
you are exceptionally well attended; also by St. Denis, whom by all accounts, must have the patience of "Joab".

This morning, after a poor night's sleep, worry, worry; I too went to visit, once more, "Our" excellent Dentist. A few days ago I heard a grinding noise and felt sure A piece of filling had fallen from another tooth on the  opposite side of my mouth.  However all is well and Dr Naji thinks I was just "grinding" my teeth as I have a small "over bight".   "Now you may eat salads again, but NO nuts !  A few more weeks and you should the new "Bridge".

These are the times when I do not like having to "live alone ".  However I appear to have made some  exceptional friends in this Condo Apartment Building.  Especially Joy Sheets, and Gary and Joyce Nicholson.

Nothing seems to be too much trouble, for Joy, "Once a nurse, always a Nurse" !.  Joyce N. was a nurse,but now recently turned 90 is slightly frail, but still full of laughter;  Gary, ex RCMP, has time to fix all sorts; from "old alarm clocks"  to computers, then in the last few days My Television;  it was a real Conumdren and frustrating for days and days;  Now all is fixed and I was able to see "The Budget".  I still feel we chose the correct PM, to deal with Trump and Canada's next few years, financially he is the only person to drive ahead;
Hopefully I will see many successful opportunities work out, apart from Alberta, Canada is becoming one very strong country, new Trade partners from around the world,  also an increased size of the Military, needed especially in our Far North.

Have a good night.

Re: De Minimis . An interesting article.

I learned the meaning of this Latin word when I was at the Catholic Convent in Westward Ho!, Devon in 1940 !
Many years later my Mother was reading one of UK's  (then) great newspapers,  when she asked rhetorically"what on
earth does that mean ? My immediate answer was "Forget It".  She just turned to me with a surprised look, saying
"Thank you".

So now may I say to you , Forget it  !  If someone wants to make stupid suggestions over something that happened
many years ago; De Minimis.  !!

Post Scriptum:
You are very welcome.   Thank you for the delightful photo , a whole wall of books, Wow ! Obviously they have to be
Law -in -clined.  A very comfortable small room looking towards your desk with the window overlooking the fields and
river. Today is not the time to sit on the balcony, winter is not too far away.

October 30, 2025

I am sorry to hear your latest news of skin cancer.  It can be removed fairley easily, but probably not

4 t one time.

I am sure that I told you that I had the same problem a couple of months ago. Mine was a lump on one side
of my nose, not a pretty site !  However my Almonte Doctor , Jordan Milko, recommended Dr Kelly,
Ottawa Skin Cancer, 303 Moodie Drive, Suite320, Ottawa K2H 9R4 , 613 596 5322 , fax 613604 0044.
She is a delightful young woman originally from New Zealand. She also does Reconstructive Surgery.

It only took her 20 minutes to cut , remove and stitch, after the sight was frozen.  Now after using Vaseline from
day 2, a great healing agent, I cannot see the sight.

She is also an amazing photographer; she has several enormous photos on the walls of beautiful Waterfalls in
South Island. N.Z.

Maybe your Dermatologist already knows of Dr. Kelly.

I wish you good luck.  Once more, it always seems to be "One thing after another"!   Now I am eating Soft Foods
since I had that one "almost " front tooth removed, then waiting for 2 more months before the "Bridge" can be
attached.   Old age could be an awful lot worse. but at least I am still independent  !  Yesterday I drove into
Smiths Falls to visit Kinkaid Loney, Monument builders, to organise the purchase of a granite  "Mono"  for
Tony and myself to be placed in St. George's Cemetery, Bowland Rd, Clayton.  Tony's son Todd, is "Far too
busy @ C I B C. "  to drive to Smiths Falls at any time, I should not complain as he will pay half of the price
and he more or less accepts whatever I choose.  The wooden cross planted over Tony' Ashes is already in
poor shape, so another winter will have to be the last one.

A cheerful Good Night. !    Suzanne

Still working on it.

A really busy day, too many phone calls, especially one from UK, Re: Finances, so I gave the
Foreign accented man Todd's phone number.  I could not understand one word , even after politely asking him
to speak slowly.  Straight away I wondered if it was a scam.  But.he phoned back 3 times, which I did not answer.
Time will tell. !

My Dentist's day for extraction has changed to this coming Monday 10am, instead of a week later.  Now I have
to find out if there is a taxi to take me there and home again.  Sunday Am, I shall ask if anyone has an idea.
The forecast is for rain all day, the ground is bone dry again.

Do you happen to know Wayne Guthrie (re: Tatlock Mine).  I understand he has just moved into OrchardView.
He still drove to Clayton most Sundays and would read the Lessons when it was his turn. He has "Parkiinsons"
which maybe is increasing. His dear wife Lynn, died 5 years ago, then one of his sons moved in with him for
a while, but he preferred to be alone.

No wonder you needed to sit down!

I’ve meant to ask — who is your dentist? Who else could it be but Dr. Naji Louis, all those years ago! I still remember climbing those steep steps behind the RBC to have a rear molar removed. Thankfully, he was a strong young man then; it took him several breaks and a good deal of effort to get that tooth out. I can still hear him apologizing, saying with a grin, “I’m sweating like an old pig!”

I believe I was his third or fourth patient after he took over from the previous dentist — I forget his name, though I recall he lived on Parkview Crescent — and all that old equipment came with the practice!

Tomorrow I’ll have to call Dr. Louis’s office, as the second half of my tooth has broken off, leaving, I think, the base still in place. My appointment is set for Monday, October 27 at 11 a.m. I’m not looking forward to the whole ordeal — the extraction, the healing, the waiting for the bridge. I suspect I’ll be living on homemade soups for a while.

This afternoon’s outing to Carleton Place for shopping wore me out. The dry goods from Bulk Barn can wait until morning, but I managed to squeeze everything else into the small fridge. How I miss my lovely kitchen — the large fridge and induction stove, the freezer in the garage, and that built-in desk with drawers on either side, perfect for my two computers.

And of course, the countertop island with its pull-out stand for short little me! The four-person table in the bay window overlooking my handmade garden, bright with perennials — such beautiful memories.

Good night.

Post Scriptum:

Thanks Bill, Almost exactly the same view as "1175" Bellamy Mills Rd

October 16, 2025

An extraordinarily busy day, no wonder you needed to sit down !

I have meant to ask you, who is your dentist !.     Who else , other than Dr.Naji Louis all those
years ago !  I remember climbing all those steps behind the R.B.C, to have one rear Molar removed.
Thankfully he was a healthy, strong young man at the time;  it took him a lot of energy with several
breaks to remove that tooth and finally he apologised because he said "I'm sweating like an old Pig. "
I believe I was his 3rd or 4th patient  after taking over the previous Old dentist's practice (I forget his
name, but I remember he lived on Parkview Crescent )  also all the old equipment !
Tomorrow I have to phone Dr Louis's office as the 2nd half of my tooth broke off , leaving, I think,
the base in place.  My original appointment is Monday Oct.27 @ 11 am.

I am not looking forward to all the next process after the removal, then having to wait during the
"Healing"  for at least a month, then having a "bridge" attached.  I suspect I shall be living on
homemade soups for a while !

It was shopping in C.P. this afternoon, the" dried" stuff from Bulk Barn will wait until the morning,
but everything else was squeezed into the small fridge.  How I miss my lovely Kitchen, with the
large fridge and "Induction"stove, also a large freezer in the garage ; an inserted desk with drawers
either side, plenty of room for my 2 computers !   A Countertop Island with pull out stand on drawer ( for short "ME") !
A 4 person table and chairs in the Bay window overlooking my hand made garden with perennial flowers.

Beautiful memories !  Good night !

October 15, 2025

Interesting, as usual !

I haven't seen that old English word "Ossifi"  for many years !
So now you have given Denis a new Title, absolutely perfect and well deserved .

October 12, 2025

Denis took a beautiful photo; now I am trying to figure out, early morning before the sun rises,

or late evening just before dark,  The burnt corn stalks with a magnificent sky over the river.

And you are trying to figure out a fairly lengthy life;  well to be truthful I think I just take one
day at a time,  good or bad !  in the last couple of weeks it has been disheartening;

First of all, one half of an almost front tooth fell out while trying to quickly eat breakfast early
Sunday morning; so I arrived at St. George's church trying not to smile too broadly.
Our kind Minister, Robert, asked "is anything wrong , you don't appear to be your usual
happy self ?".  I just tried a quick smile, "Oh dear , any Pain ?"  I just shook my head while
trying to carry a handful of Altar stuff.    So Monday I made an appointment with my dentist,
A week later, one day before the appointment, the other half of the same tooth broke off.
After an Xray the last of the tooth has to come out, then he will eventually make a "bridge".
Of course,  at large expense, but it will be the best way to compensate it all, as I have only
lost 2 Molars many years ago before my children were born.

In the meantime my tomatoes are ripening well, the rest of the balcony plants are still
inside until it is warmer, probably tomorrow .
In the morning I shall return to Clayton to visit the annual " Crown and Pumpkin " Tour.
Plus St G's Community breakfast. The 2 day Tour is all "Arts and Crafts". The advert says
"One of the most artistically diverse tours in Ontario."  They have come up in the world
since I left Clayton !  We always had lots of traffic on Bellamy Mills Rd, now I see there is
a stop on Mill St. plus 4 more in Almonte,  also Robert Pauly, quilts & Sculpture, with
Barb Mullally, Jewellery. close to The General store.

Another early morning!  Good night

October 8, 2025

It is a totally new world nowadays and to a younger man such as you, extremely interesting.

However, in my declining years I shall continue to do what I know and enjoy; while I realise
it takes me a longer time to perform many usual and useful things.  The only exception is....
driving my very modern car, which at certain speeds will carefully "drive itself". plus a few
more safety items when it tells me what not to do !
This afternoon I re-potted all my plants on the balcony and brought them into the S.W. window
in the drawing room.  I still had six branches of "extra sweet Tiny Tomatoes" not quite ripe. so
I cut these branches, pushed them into the wet soil and completely covered the enormous pot
with an old blanket. Then I cut down the whole 8ft tall plant. During the night the temperature
is forecast to drop to 0.

Tomorrow I have to tackle the Rosebush for one more COLD night.
10 pm news.  The Gaza/ Netanyahu War should be over in 72hours, thanks to Egypt , Turkey

Oh ! How I wish I could be walking over the marshy height to gently slide down  on sand

below and wallow in the salt water beyond. Like you, I fear those days are over, but...
Vancouver Island still beckons,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, !

Graham phoned on the weekend with much Homestead news, warm weather, also a few
more wildfires, slightly too close to their home on the outskirts of Chemainus;  thankfully
the fires were held in place, but the smoke was strong for two days  before the wind
changed direction. Light rain is in the forecast but they have yet to see it .

The best news is, he and Ana may come to Ontario for Christmas. Ana's parents live in
Kitchener, her Father, in his late 70's, is not in the best of health and soon will have to go
into a Nursing Home for good care. Her younger sister is a Veterinarian in Ottawa, living
in Alta Vista, where they stayed the last time they were here. The new problem is they
have to find someone to look after their two large Huskies, now aged 14; the two brothers
are  "slowing down", so they need to find someone to stay in their house. Their friend who
looked after them has, unfortunately, moved away. Their own Vets are hopefully  also
looking for the perfect helper.

At the opposite end of Canada, Grandson Alex, has finally been able to start his studies last
Tuesday @ Dalhousie U. once all the Professors have returned to work after their almost three
weeks Strike. All students had to remain on site incase said strike was quickly ended !  Alex
spent most days swimming in the large pool and coaching many who needed help; this time, for free.!
Ian and Nicole ,during those 3 weeks  managed to completely re-arrange
their rather awkward kitchen in their new home in Wolfville. Ian told me by phone that he really
needed strong Alex to help them, as his previous 3 months of work as his own contractor with
Macquarie U had been extremely busy and from October onwards it will be the same..

September 28, 2025 v2

While living in London close to Hampstead Heath, I would often ride my bicycle through the narrow
"Lanes" looking at the interesting small and large houses occupied by many well known people,
also from  previous years through 2 centuries ago, each one marked with special Plaques.

In the afternoons I would have to get ready with clothes etc: for the evening of teaching Ballroom
Dancing in several different large public Ballrooms, all of which I had to access by the Underground
railway, "Tube" until I had my own car, then I felt safer coming home alone in the dark ! Sometimes
if there was a professional competition coming up my Dance partner and I would spend many hours
practicing in said huge buildings.  In the early 1950s we came 2nd  out of the whole of Southern England.
Unfortunately my Mother would not allow me to travel to Liverpool, Lancashire, for the "Whole of  " " " " "
competition. From then onwards I would often help my Father in our garden in the mornings, but
Saturday evenings were always Dancingtime.

In Canada ,  Saturdays were times to relax from working in offices during the week, often driving all
around the countryside wherever we were living, Ottawa or Calgary until I had two sons. Naturally
Father would be home, also our Boys. As the years past quickly, Elder Brother Ian , played with
Graham, then when we came to Almonte they would go fishing together at the edge of the Mississippy
River where there is now a small park, until Graham was about 5 and he had learned how to throw back
all the fish he caught, it was not Ian's idea of fun ! They both made good friends here which have lasted
for many years.  With 6 and 1/2 years between each one , Saturdays were extremely busy both going
in different directions, sports and friends; I seemed to cook and garden for ever, until Ian went to
University and Graham was left alone. At that time some kind friend gave Graham an old "Dirt Bike"
that would not work, so he decided to take it all apart in the "Old Pony shed" (1800's) in the garden.
Many weeks later, one Saturday morning he asked if he could use some of the lawn mower gas,
he wanted me to watch him,  at the first Pull it started. For many Saturdays he spent time riding
over the uneven "Old Metcalfe Farm" ground chasing a couple of friends on their bikes.  Now there
are many new houses built on the same land.

Now I have to look at the calendar to make sure it is Saturday, so I can be organised for my early
departure on Sunday morning to St. George's Church, Clayton.

Post Scriptum:

Thank you, It was great to remember it all .

September 28, 2025

A lovely read, Yes Saturdays were always busy times, but not rushed.

I'll write tomorrow with very different memories of London , then Canada.
I am ready for bed,  clean and hair washed, clothes laid out for my usual
early rise, 6am, hopefully with early sun shining on red trees all the way
along Wolfgrove Rd to Clayton where I open up St.George's church
@ 8am and prepare the Altar for 9am.
9.45 pm Straight into bed !  Good night.

September 26, 2025

An interesting article, amongst others that I have finally read; too much happening all at the same time !

So much so that I could not sleep at the proper hours; then the underground parking door could not
be opened from outside, a truck smashed into the "key plug opener".  I had to leave my car outside for
2 nights, once the rain turned to a drizzle I walked to a clean car feeling rather weak, once parked down
below at the far end of the building in the only EV space (with the trailing cord) I wondered how I could
manage to walk to the elevator; luckily the husband of a friend of mine asked if I needed help with the
parcel I was carrying," Yes please Ernst, could you also carry me ! Thank goodness I had made a
delicious Sweet Potato soup in the morning, I filled a bowl , added fresh Broccoli and grated cheese,
once finished , I crawled into bed and slept for 10 and half hours without moving  !  That has been "
"A wake - up call"  Early to bed. !
Good night  !!

Beautiful photos, the memories come tumbling home.

Living in Ringwood, Hampshire, only a few miles from Bournemouth with it's fine white sand beach;
during the war no one was allowed to go anywhere near that gorgeous beach, partially mined.
On the high hill above the English Channel, My Father, once in uniform again, all be it, the R.A.F ,
ordered very tall trees, maybe from the New Forest, to be cut down, branches removed, then
the trees to be placed at certain intervals for miles along the South edge of Great Britain, facing
the E.C.,with a few rocks each side of the large " Guns".  In 1940 just before the "Battle of Britain"
the country was extremely short of Weapons.

At my small Ringwood school, we all learned John Masefield's  poem , Sea Fever,
and said it each Monday morning, but.... adding "And planes and guns to keep us Safe".

September 23, 2025

A beautiful old Sailing ship, or is it an AI picture ?

September 20, 2025

You are sure to enjoy that healthy meal that you now smell !

Some of those "plant based meats" I dare not try, too many "allergies'. I eat lean pork, chicken breast,
fish of many kinds, eggs and Lactose free cheeses. While it is warm weather, every day I make large
salads consisting of everything imaginable, plus my 1 a day tiny sweet tomato grown on my balcony in
the far corner against the usually warm red brick walls; there are still 29 green turning yellow fruits left,
these last few extra cold nights have not killed them ! BUT....we badly need rain, hopefully it is forecast
for Monday & Tuesday. We understand that Miss:Mills is asked to save water in every possible way.!
At the Condo meeting the other evening, one bright Spark suggested that we only shower one day a
week, so another person suggested "Only if you don't come out of your locked apartment "! Many
"Guffoughs" to both  !

September 20, 2025

Hi Bill,

Just to let you know that Heather Sheffield passed on September 13,, aged 79,
after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

On Thursday evening after the Annual Condo meeting, I attended Gamble's Funeral Home for the
visitation. There was a slow moving, long line up. I am grateful that I went as I reconnected with
their middle daughter, Sarah, also Emily who came to Graham's birthday parties from aged 5, for
for several years.  Heather was a good friend of mine, who in1998 finally managed to persuade me
to become President of the Almonte Hospital Auxiliary.  That was the beginning of 10 years of hospitals;
Not only Almonte but eventually as Chairman of Eastern Ontario's 28 hospitals, which I discovered
was the largest area in the whole of Ontario , all at the same time!  I was asked to continue with
Ontario for another 5 years, ending as head of the Province.   Unfortunately my children's Father
became ill, so I refused those final  5 years.
Heather and I kept in touch whenever we could as she also worked.

On Friday morning I attended Heather's funeral service at St.Paul's.  Alan gave a delightful Eulogy,
also sad at times when he had to stop talking.  Sarah also tried to start her Eulogy but the tears
were too much for several minutes. however she spoke lovingly and extremely well for all the Family.
The church was absolutely full. Rev: Jonathon Kouri produced an excellent service.

May Dear Heather rest in peace.

September 19, 2025 v2

We now have 5 new Condo owners on the ground floor; I am finding all are pleasant and

interesting. One who now lives in the large apartment at the end of the corridor, was an
Almonte High School teacher.  When asking my last name he immediately said "and you
have two sons ! He remembered Ian, saying he was an excellent Soccer player and at age
15 he played on the same team as the 18 year olds,he was small and extremely fast, also
highly intelligent,  what does he do now ?   When I very briefly answered, he was Flabbergasted !
Then he asked about Graham, telling me most of the teachers often wondered if he has a
photographic memory !  A small world !

September 19, 2025

Interesting article.  One question;  Where on P.E.I is the Rod Crowbush Resort ?

Denis did an amazing amount of studying and organising to make it all extremely worthwhile.

September 18, 2025

You were on the MOVE so much , I certainly understand your delight at finally coming

Home.  Once winter has arrived, (if it actually will be as we remember it all ! ) great
memories will return, both good and even frustrating ones !
Welcome Home.

September 16, 2025

I know you would not have been able to travel to all the Eastern Provinces and home again ,without your extremely

comfortable new EV Cadillac .
The charging problems were relatively minor; improvement will emerge in following years.
An amazing holiday.  Enjoy the last portion ; Fall is almost here !

September 13, 2025

Well done ! That sounds like a great swim etc; after all that I'm sure you were ready for an

excellent breakfast.
Chester is a very nice small town next to the Bay;  it also has a large amount of expensive houses
close by. I remember eating an excellent lunch right on the water.

September 11, 2025 v2

So glad you finally arrived on P.E.I.   A lovely photo of a golf course and ,Hotel ? which I recognise.

Victoria by the Sea is a delightful small town. There is an excellent restaurant built over the water,
it does not look that good, water stained wood, but the food is excellent; you can eat inside or out
on the deck. We always went there2 or 3 times; our last year we met a good friend eating inside,
when we were outside right next to the window, suddenly there was a tap tap on the glass, it was
a friend from Montague, well East of Charlottetown. Her husband had been Mayor of Montague
for several years, then said "enough "  so he had a break for a couple of years, then was asked,
almost pushed back into office for another few years ! Their daughter had a son who attended the
University St. Francis Exceavior in Antigonish at the same time as Our Granddaughter Sarah,
they had a relationship for a few years until it was time for Sarah to enter Medical school.

There are lovely Sands all around  Stanley Bridge, Cavendish, Rustico, Brackley Beach,
We used to stay just outside Cornwall, all that area is very green and pretty.  You will find
your own delightful places.
Have fun, plenty of fish;  No more struggles to re- charge your car.

Post Scriptum:

That is what you are supposed to do, just relax and enjoy !!

September 11, 2025

Enjoy that beautiful Island.  In the 16 years that we went there, we must have covered every side road !

One interesting place was the farthest North point, where the High wind towers were erected; also
I remember a reasonable restaurant in which to fill up etc: before the long drive home to Kensington
where we stayed in a large B & B on a large acreage with a beautiful ground floor suite, on the main
Highway just past the well known potato chip factory.

September 10, 2025

We also had snake -rail fences around our 25 acres but sadly some of them were 200 years or more old.

But those ones were above the house on a high hill between US and the lovely old wooden farmhouse,
at least 7-800 ft away from our only road.

September 9, 2025

Another great day for you Both.  I believe that is the same way that Tony and I avoided Montreal.

Waiting at the charging station is a great way to relax your eyes from following the road
and maybe a snooze. Hopefully the beds at the hotel were as comfortable as everything else !

Enjoy todays drive through the small towns.  Now I must return to bed !

September 7, 2025

Well Done !  At least you did not completely run out of Charge.

Sleep well.  Better luck for tomorrow, it is a great learning experience.

On my way into Clayton at 7.30 am today on Wolf Grove Rd, quite a few trees are turning Red;  on the way home
we had heavy rain all the way into Almonte, exactly what is needed.  Summer is returning for the next two weeks.
Safe driving.

Malpeque Oysters September 6, 2025 v2

Enjoy that amazing long trek.  When do you leave ?

Once on P.E.I you have to find "Malpeque" N.W. island, and eat their world renowned

famous Oysters.  Tony enjoyed them each time over 16 years, while I waited outside
on the grass, eating a homemade cheese sandwich, as I am highly Allergic to all
Shellfish!

Malpeque oysters are
a variety of the native eastern oyster (Crassostrea virginica) from Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada, specifically Malpeque Bay, and are famous for their balanced, clean, sweet flavor with a moderate brine and a meaty texture. Recognized as the "tastiest oyster in the world" at the 1900 Paris World's Fair, these oysters are highly prized for their rich history, teardrop-shaped shells, and tender meats, and are harvested using traditional hand-tonging methods from the cold, pristine waters of PEI.
Received by chance: Hi Bill: John Bell was a direct descendant of Rev. William Bell, the famous first Presbyterian Minister in Perth. I don't think John ever had much interest in his heritage. I went to school  with Pat, their daughter. John's Mother came to the school once to listen to us do story telling. It was only when I started doing research for an LCGS book "Lanark County Legends" that I realized that they actually were a pretty famous family, many of whom were  "legends". John was "different". He and Halcyon were friends with my parents until they (the Bells) discovered alcohol and that ended the relationship, since my parents were teetotallers!

Another  interesting article, specifically the names of people with whom I have met and or Known

for many years.
1. John Bell I briefly met Years ago at some gathering in Almonte, when I asked "Would you happen to
be related to Alexander G.Bell ?"  He looked slightly surprised, then answered  "maybe a couple of
hundred years ago " !   I seem to remember saying " he was my Grand-Father's first Cousin. We had
a brief chuckle realising we were not related
2. Keith and Penny Blades, who now live on Parkview Crescent, a few minutes walk from here;
Penny ,I have known for many years with A.G.H.association organising many House Tours, the money
received goes towards purchasing new necessary items (inside all hospitals),for which the Government
does not pay.
3. The Thompson family has  produced Maple Syrup for almost 100years !  Glen THompson was the
Head of the Almonte Hospital Ambulance Association,  Now taken over by Lanark County.
4 Rose Mary Sarsfield
I have a copy of her Book " Whispers from the Past " which she kindly signed for me in 2018 @ a special
meeting in Clayton,to hopefully sell her first number of books.  The picture on the front cover is the first
wooden building where Maple Syrup was made and sold in Clayton. It was carefully renovated a
number of years ago,  right opposite Our property on Bellamy Mills Rd.   When gardening ,I could hear the
saw squeaking and nails being banged into the wood !

As a child Rose Mary grew up in an old log house a short distance around the bend on Bellamy Mills Rd.
She attended the small school closer to Clayton General Store, and remembers sliding down the steep slope
at the side of School during Icy cold winter days.

The McIntosh Family home on the edge of the lake, always has a large brightly coloured Christmas Tree,
that everyone can enjoy. Personally I have not met them, but Tony and I were good friends with their next
door neighbours across the small unpaved lane.  The names of whom I cannot remember at this moment.
The wife (Brigit?)was a well known artist, who travelled around the world, painting amazing pictures.   We celebrated the New year 2000, at Mary and Jim Huguesson's home with them all. Unfortunately the artist died, her
husband stayed alone in Clayton for a year, then decided to join his son in Sydney, Vancouver Island. He spent
his last Clayton evening at our house and drove  through the USA to The Island. We kept in touch for many
years; another interesting story !

Re:  Mollie P-W,  I brought My Mother to Almonte December 3,1979, She had stayed alone in the delightful old cottage in Melplash, Dorset U K, for 5 years after my Father, Ronald died, August 12, 1974.  I realised she was
no longer able to manage many everyday items;  She would telephone me in the middle of our night because she had forgotten how to turn off her electric kitchen stove. It would take me 2 or three times to tell her " There is a large black plug on the wall above the stove and next to it , there is a large black knob that you must pull down".
About a week later, the same kind of confusion with her washing machine. I telephoned one of her cousins,
who lived in another small village about 5 miles away. Thankfully she and her husband were able to mention to
Mollie that it was probably time to sell the cottage.  That was the start of the whole procedure of Mollie coming
to Canada !  She stayed with my family and I, in our rented old Farmhouse at the base of Gemmill Park, owned
by Brig: General Don Stewart. At that time he was still Head of NATO in Syracuse, N.Y.
Unfortunately Mollie's memory was identified as Alshiermer disease.  Exactly one year
and one day later, Dr.Frank Murphy authorised her removal from AGH, to The Almonte
Nursing Home on Country St, with your knowledge as her lawyer.

A few months later, you had a phone call at your office, from a friend of mine, with whom
my family and I had briefly stayed in their new bungalow in Clayton upon our return
from living in Calgary, Alberta;  Mrs Audrey Baran questioned you re; "the unnecessary
removal of Mollie to such a place as a nursing home."  In your own words , you told her
"It was none of her business and to leave her daughter alone."  Immediately you phoned
me, to tell me the whole present situation and that as a lawyer, you felt you should not
have done such a thing. My response: Thank you Bill, it was the correct way in which to
treat an unwanted "busybody".

The only time Mollie actually went to Clayton, Mrs.A.B. took her to Clayton for tea, on
Mollie's return She said "The countryside is lovely, but the house, awkward, cold and
uninviting; please give me a hot cup of REAL tea !
Naturally, I did not see the Baran's again.

Post Scriptum:

Thanks Bill,  but am I reading some of your words incorrectly ?
My eldest son Ian, has told me on many occasions, that he does not want
any of my "Things", furniture, glass, china, silver,Paintings, photos, etc: ect:

However, my younger son, Graham, has told me he would like all of my furniture
and Family items. Once retired he will repair, polish ect; read books.  He will rent
a large Van and drive everything home to Vancouver Island.

All that spacing on my "monologue" is by this computer, not as I sent it to you !!

Editorial Note

September 6, 2025

I can no longer withstand the grimace of having to ignore the tales I frequently receive from Mrs. Jonsen.  Previously I had abandoned the record keeping because she had dismissed the effort of any interest to her children. In view of the limited expectancy of amusement I have however foregone the necessity to correct the appearance of the monologues.
