September 28, 2025 v2

While living in London close to Hampstead Heath, I would often ride my bicycle through the narrow
"Lanes" looking at the interesting small and large houses occupied by many well known people,
also from  previous years through 2 centuries ago, each one marked with special Plaques.

In the afternoons I would have to get ready with clothes etc: for the evening of teaching Ballroom
Dancing in several different large public Ballrooms, all of which I had to access by the Underground
railway, "Tube" until I had my own car, then I felt safer coming home alone in the dark ! Sometimes
if there was a professional competition coming up my Dance partner and I would spend many hours
practicing in said huge buildings.  In the early 1950s we came 2nd  out of the whole of Southern England.
Unfortunately my Mother would not allow me to travel to Liverpool, Lancashire, for the "Whole of  " " " " "
competition. From then onwards I would often help my Father in our garden in the mornings, but
Saturday evenings were always Dancingtime.

In Canada ,  Saturdays were times to relax from working in offices during the week, often driving all
around the countryside wherever we were living, Ottawa or Calgary until I had two sons. Naturally
Father would be home, also our Boys. As the years past quickly, Elder Brother Ian , played with
Graham, then when we came to Almonte they would go fishing together at the edge of the Mississippy
River where there is now a small park, until Graham was about 5 and he had learned how to throw back
all the fish he caught, it was not Ian's idea of fun ! They both made good friends here which have lasted
for many years.  With 6 and 1/2 years between each one , Saturdays were extremely busy both going
in different directions, sports and friends; I seemed to cook and garden for ever, until Ian went to
University and Graham was left alone. At that time some kind friend gave Graham an old "Dirt Bike"
that would not work, so he decided to take it all apart in the "Old Pony shed" (1800's) in the garden.
Many weeks later, one Saturday morning he asked if he could use some of the lawn mower gas,
he wanted me to watch him,  at the first Pull it started. For many Saturdays he spent time riding
over the uneven "Old Metcalfe Farm" ground chasing a couple of friends on their bikes.  Now there
are many new houses built on the same land.

Now I have to look at the calendar to make sure it is Saturday, so I can be organised for my early
departure on Sunday morning to St. George's Church, Clayton.
